“Consciousness and Microtubules” by Dr. Stuart Hameroff
In order to have a conscious experience the brain has to be more than a computer. Dr. Stuart Hameroff explains consciousness as an aspect of Quantum Mechanics. Dr. Hameroff draws on the work of Dr. Roger Penrose pointing to finding a mechanism that would allow for non computability; i.e., free will. To do this Dr. Roger Penrose points to a need for a Quantum Gravity mechanism or a Quantum Computer mechanism in the brain.
Dr. Stuart Hameroff has found what is called microtubulars within neurons in the brain and nervous system as the possible location for where Quantum Computation takes place. Microtubulars seem to be small enough to incorporate super positioning making Quantum Computations possible.
Follow Dr. Stuart Hameroff on his search for understanding how and why we are conscious.
