Michio Kaku explains “The Universe In A Nutshell”
Dr. Michio Kaku explains the development of the modern scientific perspective starting with what he calls the greatest breakthrough in thinking that has occurred for man and that would be Sir Isaac Newton’s Principia. The Principia is Sir Isaac Newton’s discovery of gravity, the relationship between the falling apple and the moon orbiting the earth, both are falling bodies.
Dr. Kaku continues with describing the next two major breakthroughs as the discovery of electromagnetism and the weak & strong atomic forces. With these basic laws of nature discovered the Standard Model of the Universe has been established.
The discovery of gravity by Newton gave us the industrial revolution, Faraday’s discovery of electromagnetism gave us the electrification of society and the discovery of the weak and strong forces gave us the atomic age.
But we are still looking for the Theory of Everything. In the materialistic world of science the closest candidate we have today for this theory of everything is “String Theory”.
Out future holds the continued application of these discoveries which should lead us to most science fiction becoming science within the next one hundred years. Time travel, warp drive, higher detentions, portals through space and time, stargates, and wormholes should follow within the nest one thousand years or more.
In order to make sure that all this happens there is a culling process in modern education. Most students flunk out in the first year of studying physics. This makes sure that only the competent individuals that can get and us the laws of mechanics and then the higher physics of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics make sure that what they make works!

Key Takeaways:
- Before the modern scientific age man lived with many different superstitions and fears of the unknown.
- The modern scientific age began with Galileo and Sir Isaac Newton by giving us the first theory of gravity that we still use for most everyday experiences including our current space travel.
- Electromagnetism and the atomic laws have given us the electrification of society and the atomic age.
- Dr. Michio Kaku includes a list of benefits that we should expect to see happening within the near future and some that may take a bit longer.
- String Theory is the best candidate for the Theory of Everything today.
- Consciousness wasn’t even mentioned in this exposé of modern physics.
“By the year 2100 we will have the power of the Gods. To paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke (1917 2008): “Any sufficient advanced technology is indistinguishable from divinity.”
(Magic and not divinity is the actual word Arthur Clack used).
